No make-up make-up inspiration

valentino-beauty-spring-summer-2013-pfw20

Taking inspiration from the Valentino Spring/Summer 2013 collection that gave us dreamy dresses and a very natural, simple and clean make-up look that makes you look like the real you, only more groomed.

According to Pat McGrath, a cream blush is used to create softly flushed cheeks (think RMS beauty Lip2Cheek as the most brilliant and natural multitasking little hero), followed by brown shadow on the lids and under the lower lash line and finished with a few layers of brown mascara and powder.

Yes, powder is definitely back to give us the fresh and matte rather then dewy finish. If you are dreading a thought of a cakey face, think translucent invisible powders: HD Perfecting Powder by Chantecaille, Hyaluronic Hydra Powder by Terry, Un-powder powder by RMS Beauty, Zodiac powder by Estee Lauder (which also makes a wonderful and very thoughtful gift!), Sensai loose powder by Kanebo. For those looking for pigmented products, Tom Ford finishing powder or Luminous silk powder by Giorgio Armani will work beautifully.

Ciate Pink Duo for Breast Cancer campaign

elle-russia-march-2010-lonn

Ciaté is one of those brands that any woman can easily fall in love with. The first thing you notice about their nail polishes is the bottles – they are incredibly pretty (in a chic way), each finished with a black satin bow. Next you realise that the varnishes come in a rainbow of shades, so you definitely find the one that suits your personality. And then you learn the important details – the British brand was founded by Charlotte Knight, a celebrity nail artist who knows all the industry secrets when it comes to beautiful manicure; the polishes are free from toluene, formaldehyde and dibutyl-phthalate commonly known as the “toxic trio”.

It is the free-from part that made me try Ciaté a few years ago and I am still using their polishes and brilliant fast drying top-coat that I blogged about before.

This month Ciaté site turned pink to support the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. In addition Charlotte also created a limited edition beautiful pink duo made of Pinkalilly (Pink Twilight) and Pinkaboo (Pink Jewel) for you to buy, so whenever a kit is sold, 20% will go to the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity.

elle-ciate-pink-bca-polishes

“The fear of breast cancer is something that heartbreakingly affects women globally. We are delighted to partner with the charity by infusing two of our signature shades with the powerful Breakthrough Breast Cancer pink. Our aim is to empower and inspire other women to support this tremendous cause by declaring their support with a beautiful nail polish.” said Charlotte in a press release.

You can order the duo on Ciaté official website or buy it in Selfridges where you will also be treated to a free Ciaté manicure at the Selfridges Pain Shop when you make your purchase.

In addition, you may also want to read my last year post on how to reduce the risk of the disease by making a few simple changes to your diet and lifestyle.

Weekend sign off

elle-china-august-2012

I forgot that I no longer blog on Saturdays… I think the rule was meant to be broken after all and pretty much as soon as because when there is a new story to share, it’s best just to go for it.

A few days ago, after he finished installing the lights in that epic bathroom of ours, a friend commented how bright the room was. “Oh, now I am going to see every single imperfection on my skin,” I replied without thinking. Next thing I knew was two pairs of eyes staring at me, studying my face like a map.

“But you don’t have imperfections, do you?” Mr asked, puzzled. “Of course, not, darling.” I smiled and made a book worth of excuses to disappear as quickly as possible.

Of course, I have imperfections, but this is something I’d rather keep to myself and certainly would not share with the male audience. Men are simple creatures – if you tell them that you are perfect they will think so, too. And if you choose to count your flaws out loud, don’t be surprised if they refer to them in the future.

Never forget that you are a true reflection of beauty and your imperfections are a part of it – just never refer to them as “imperfections” when your other half is around.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Always yours,

signature

GIVEAWAY: Trevarno organic skincare kits

A few weeks ago, after my post about organic skincare went live, I received an email from the lovely people at Trevarno with an order to try and review a few different products. Since I was already pretty familiar with the range and tried and tested more or less everything they have, I asked if they wouldn’t mind giving the promised samples to one of my blog readers as a giveaway. The most brilliant thing is that not only they were really excited about it – they also agreed to offer not one, but two prizes.

Each prize includes a try-me skincare kit containing a bottle of Rose & jojoba cleanser, Rosewater & Chamomile skin toner, day cream and night cream to suit either normal or dry/mature skin.

trevarno-organic-starter-kit copy trevarno-tryme-kit-normal copy

Based on my personal experience and knowledge of herbs and oils and their properties, I would suggest the “normal kit” to anyone under 30 and the “dry/mature kit” to anyone over 35 looking for extra anti-wrinkle support as well as good moisturisers.

The creams will last you for at least 3 weeks and the cleanser and toner – for about two, so you will definitely have time to fall in love if not with all of them, but at least some of those wonderful products.

I am so pleased about giving two of you a chance to try some of my favourite skin care and hosting such a fab giveaway as a part of the week dedicated to health and beauty.

To enter:

* follow Fashioned by Love either via Google Friend Connect (or use the button on the bottom of the page) or Facebook (choose whichever way works best for you)

* follow Trevarno via Twitter or Facebook (again, whichever way suits you best)

* leave a comment below saying which skincare kit you would like to win – normal or dry/mature.

The giveaway is open internationally and will run until midnight 14 July 2012. The winner will be announced on Sunday, 15 July 2012.

Good luck!

Cindy Crawford in Vogue Italia 1991

vogue-italia-may-1991-4

For the last few months I have been lovingly collecting articles, quotes and photos that, in one way or another, were related to beauty.

Beauty that is influenced by fashion and through the eyes of people working in the fashion industry. Beauty as a reflection of our ideas. Beauty that is healthy, beauty as unique as a person herself, beauty that has no rules apart from one – loving yourself the way you are and taking care of your body as the most precious thing in the world.

If you read my blog regularly you would remember a few posts I’ve written about the link between beauty and health. Now, with the recent launch of the health initiative, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect to dedicate a part of my blog, an entire week, to the topic that means so much to me.

After marinating the idea and coming up with the final plan for the posts I decided to start with this editorial from the May issue of Italian Vogue featuring Cindy Crawford photographed by Marco Glaviano.

Back in the 1990s Cindy was my ultimate girl crush and, as far as the fitness was concerned, the role model. Supermodel with the most perfect hair, velvet brown eyes and incredible body was my idea of beauty. She was stunning, sensual and smart. She favoured healthy diet and was the very first model who released a fitness video (which, of course, I had, used and treasured).

Cindy was also the one who had a strong opinion about the health initiative programme speaking out days after the launch. Although I cannot fully support her opinion on such a complicated issue, I like the fact that she was one of the “supers” who actually had something to say bringing even more attention to the issue.

And now, without making the post even more complicated and long (see, I can talk about it for hours?), lets enjoy the beautiful photos.

My favourite organic and natural skincare products

vogue_beauty_italia_may2010_5

Have you  noticed it’s been a whole a month since I wrote about my favourite natural and organic make-up? I didn’t meant to keep you waiting this long – it just happened and I apologise for delay.

As you know, I am very very picky with what I use on and inside my body because, lets face it, we only have one and if something goes wrong with it, one way or another, there’s no substitute available.

I spent months and months looking for my perfect skincare regime and at this point I strongly feel that I finally nailed it. In the beginning all I wanted was paraben-free products, but as the time went by, my demands piled up. No longer paraben-free was enough… I wanted to find products that were almost good enough to eat. Ok, don’t panic, I wouldn’t actually attempt to use my face cream as a sandwich spread, but what I wanted was to find products containing easily recognisable and readable ingredients and formulas that wouldn’t take more than three lines to label. Basically I adopted the same rule I use for my food – clean and simple, no chemicals, ideally organic. I also wanted to find lines that are packed in glass (do not wish to add xenoestrogens to my system) and aren’t too expensive as they would have to be re-purchased regularly, so you’ll see a few options to suit different budgets.

The only natural ingredient I have avoided was honey. Honey is a nature’s gift and absolutely wonderful for many things, from treating the body from infections internally to keeping your skin beautiful when used as a mask or cream ingredient. However, my dermatologist told me once that I must avoid putting honey on my face because it’s not suitable for super sensitive skins, particularly with fragile blood vessels that are too close to the surface (my case). Additionally you should also be careful with honey-containing products if you are allergic to it (for obvious reasons) and have tendency for excessive facial hair growth (hirsutism).

Now all areas covered, lets talk creams, lotions and potions.

organic skincare trevarno o

Just like my make-up, the skincare is also quite basic, although there are a few additions that I just like to turn to occasionally.

My biggest and favourite discovery was Trevarno organic skincare. I first bought an eye cream following a shocking discovery that my Korres eye cream contained parabens.

The Trevarno eye cream pot that I received contained 30ml of pure goodness. The cream was very light, absorbed easily and smelled nice. It was made purely of oils and herbal extracts blended in a base of olive oil and rose flower water. For less than £10 I finally found my little treasure that got me interested in the other products.

Coconut oil. I use raw organic virgin coconut oil by Biona (not pictured). I usually get a 400g jar, keep it in the fridge (I also use it for cooking and eat a little every day as it is – it’s antibacterial) and de-cart some in a small jar that lives in my bathroom. The most perfect make-up remover that calms the skin, too. Smells like paradise. Very important that your coconut oil is raw organic virgin oil packaged in a glass jar.

Trevarno Rose & Jojoba cleanser. Made with organic rose water, jojoba oil, wax, grapefruit seed extract, vitamin E and vanilla. It’s light, creamy and thinner than a regular creamy cleanser, but it won’t run. The smell is absolutely comforting. It is natural, herby with a sweet note, nothing close to perfume-like. I haven’t tried removing make-up with it, but as far as regular cleansing goes, it is my little hero. (RRP £19.90 for 100ml)

Alternatives I have also tried: Organic Surge Cleanser/Wash(£5.19 for 200ml) or ThisWorks Cleanser (£19.00 for 120ml). Both are ok, however packed in plastic. Organic Surge made my skin feel a bit tight afterwards.

Rosewater. I buy organic pure rose water and use it as a toner. Trevarno Rosewater & Chamomile toner (£19.90 for 100ml) is a wonderful product, too, but I prefer a pure rose fragrance without anything else, so I switch between the two.

Trevarno Rose & Jojoba Moisturiser. Made with organic rose water and oil, olive oil, calendula, cocoa butter, vitamin E, grapefruit seed extract and wax. I chose this one because I really wanted to have a cream with rose oil in it as I swear by it, particularly because of its anti-aging properties. Plus I loved the fact that the formula contained calming calendula (I’ve used extracts and tones since I was 12 – made them myself at home) and nourishing vitamin E. It’s very creamy, but light and spreads and sinks in easily. The colour is sort of like custard, which always makes me smile. Because of its rich texture, only a small quantity is required to cover the face and neck, so 30ml jar (£13.50) will last you a good month. I have to mention here that this particular moisturiser is more suitable for mature skins, so if you are in your twenties try the Day Cream instead.

Trevarno Overnight Replenishing Cream. Ingredients are similar to the moisturiser, but the formula also contains wheatgerm, frankincense, rosewood and cedarwood oils. The last three have very particular fragrances, so you will probably notice it when you first apply the cream. They are, of course, very pleasant, especially if you, like me, love essential oils, but if you are used to confectionary sweet smells of regular creams, you may need a couple of days to get used to it. Frankly, I am positive you will soon be addicted as the smell has a wonderful ability to help you unwind and relax at night. I also get 30ml version every 5 weeks or so, for £13.50.

Alternatives I used: Organic Surge Super Intensive Daily Moisturiser and Organic Surge Overnight Sensation Night Cream, both £8.99 for 50ml. I liked the smell very much. I also liked the texture of the night cream. The daily moisturiser had a consistency of cold cream (think Ponds), but melted quickly and was easy to apply. What I found, though, is if it blocked my pores or created sort of a film over my skin. The big bonus of these two, apart from the price, is that they both contain organic aloe vera known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Although the come in glass jars, the label design is sort of too busy and too 1980s for me to process aesthetically – I would never leave Organic Surge products on a shelf for that reason.

Trevarno Revitalising Facial Oil. Oh, I am so so so excited and in love with this one! I only have a tiny bottle of the beauty elixir made with rose water, jojoba oil, vanilla and wheatgerm, and use it a few times a week after cleansing and before applying my night cream. It smells heavenly of vanilla and sunshine. About 4-5 drops are enough for the entire face to make skin super-soft and happy. £13 for 30ml.

Trevarno Calendula Ointment. A very rich product that melts in your hands to be used on irritated skin. As much as I believe in herbals for skin health I was a tiny bit sceptical to try this one, but it really worked wonders. I had an angry little spot that was buzzing ready to come out, so I used a little ointment to calm it down. I had a wedding to attend next morning and had absolutely no hopes of going spot-free. In the morning the spot gone all quiet and looked very pale and barely there. The most wonderful thing is that the skin around it was no longer inflamed as it often happens with spots. Miracle product. 30ml for £9.50 will last you ages.

Aveeno Intense Relief Handcream is always on stand-by for a daily dose of softness (paraben-free), however, once or twice a week I indulge in a little Trevarno Gardener’s Hand Salve that is, first of all organic and natural and secondly, created for very dry hands. No other cream made my hands this soft, ever. It is thick and takes time to absorb, so I use it almost as a hand mask – apply and relax for about 10 minutes. 30ml for £9.50.

Kevin Murphy Hydrate.Me. Wash + Conditioner (not pictured) is the only shampoo I use. It is not organic, but paraben and SLS free. £14.95 for 250ml (available here)

Argan oil. I don’t use any regular moisturisers or branded argan oil products. Instead I pour a little cold pressed pure oil in my hand, add a few drops of either neroli or rose oil, mix up and apply. Tons of pleasure and 100% natural.

Organic Trevarno soap. I switch between chamomile, rose&jojoba and calendula. It’s inexpensive (£3.90 for 75g bar), simple, non-fussy, unpretentious and kind to the skin. Smells like baby products – soft, gentle and comforting. Didn’t dry the skin out like many soaps and gels do.

Alternatives I have tried: Organic Surge shower gels (£4.00 for 250ml) and Balance Me Rose Otto body wash (£12.25 for 260ml)

Green People Organic Self-tan lotion. Yes, this is a self-tanning lotion that develops into a golden tan within 3 hours. Organic and free from parabens, lanolin, phthalates, artificial perfumes, petrochemicals and colourants. It is the purest one available around. Not only the results are wonderful, it also doesn’t have that horrible fake tan smell that lasts for days. Instead you get sandalwood fragrance that fades away after a few minutes. I would not use anything else. It’s easy to apply, although it’s a good idea to wait a few minutes before getting dressed. The colour is very beautiful and personally I used it once every 5 days without re-applying to maintain a sun-kissed glow.

And that’s about it. The only things I haven’t mentioned are masks and scrubs because most of them are actually home-made or have been mentioned on the blog before.

Remember that if you have never tried natural skincare, it’s wise to order samples first to check if your skin is happy with the ingredients. If you don’t develop any reaction within 24 hours, just go for it and enjoy.

This works, really

this-works-moisturiser-anti

I’ve heard of This Works a few years ago, but never got around to see their products, let alone try any. It changed a couple of months ago because I run out of my Korres Rose moisturiser. Off I went to purchase another portion only to see that it was out of stock. More over, I was told that it wasn’t suitable for my age and I needed something different because physical age is a physical age and one just has to get on with it. I did a quick research and ended up purchasing Materia Herba anti-aging moisturiser. I didn’t like that moisturiser at all. The packaging looked cheap and the feeling of the product on my skin was, how should I put it… well, it was strange, like a layer of sticky film without stickiness as you touch your face. It was my first disappointment. Next one came after I realised that some of Korres products do actually contain parabens and although this particular cream was ok, I didn’t feel comfortable any more. So I choose  not to continue using Korres skin care as wonderful as some products can be (I still adore and use the make-up range, though).

My next task was to find a product that

a) didn’t have parabens or mineral oils

b) was anti-aging

c) contained essential oils

d) was made in the UK or France

After selecting a few creams and thoroughly filtering the list, I finally choose No Wrinkles Extreme Moisturiser. Made by This Works, a UK-based company founded by Kathy Phillips who spent 7 years working at Vogue as a Health and Beauty Director, it was free from phthalates, sulphates, synthetic colours and fragrance, parabens, GMOs, mineral oils, petrolatum and propylene glycol.

It was also packed with some wonderful active ingredients including Retinol known for its anti-aging properties, hydrating and collagen-boosting hyaluronic acid, and moringa and UK sourced organic crambe oil that provide a generous supply of essential fatty acids. Plus the magic potion contained amino-acids, shea  and cocoa butters, castor  and jojoba oil and, of course, essential oils.

Then there was the jar. I took my own picture of it because I believe what you see on-line doesn’t really do it any justice. It looks gorgeous and expensive, it’s heavy when you hold it and smooth as you touch the surface. It’s like a large ice-cube that holds a frozen scoop of ice-cream inside. Even my husband commented how beautiful that jar looked on a bathroom shelf.

The cream itself is a pure indulgence. I always think of my beauty routine as a ritual and having to use this moisturiser every morning and evening makes me feel spoilt, relaxed and happy. A little goes a long way. I pick a small quantity, apply it with the palms of my hands and after pressing it into my skin, follow with a quick massage while inhaling a wonderful light fragrance of bergamot oil with a touch of lemon and cedarwood as undertones.

This cream really works. I can’t comment on the anti-aging effects yet, but my skin always feels comfortable and never – dry, even in this strange winter environmental mix of radiators and cold winds.

It costs £45 for 48g and will most likely last a couple of months. You can also get a No Wrinkles Get Srarted kit that costs £25 and contains two products: the moisturiser (15g) and a serum (15g).

The entire range, the story behind each product and a list of retailers can be found on This Works website.

***

As some people may be sensitive to essential oils, I’ve decided to list all the ingredients here as a health&safety part of my post.

No Wrinkles Extreme Moisturiser Ingredients: Aqua (water), butylene glycol, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, coconut alkanes, ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, glycerin, crambe abyssinica seed oil, moringa oleifera seed oil, glyceryl stearate SE, theobroma cacao (cocoa) butter, caprylic triglycerides, candelilla/jojoba/rice bran polyglyceryl-3 esters, glyceryl stearate, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) peel oil, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, cedrus atlantica (cedarwood) wood oil, citrus aurantium amara (petitgrain) oil, phenoxyethanol, cetearyl alcohol, sodium stearoyl lactylate, hydroxypropyl cyclodextrin, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, coco-caprylate/caprate, xylitylglucosides, mannitol, arginine, serine, sucrose, hydrogenated castol oil, mica, parfume, anhydroxylitol, sodium hyaluronate, benzyl alcohol, limonene, PCA, citruline, glycogen, histidine HCl, cera alba (beeswax), xylitol, ethylhexyglycerin, rtinol, linalool, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax, alanine, threonie, glutamin acid, lysine HCl, dehydroacetic acid, sodium hydroxide, citral, geraniol, Cl 77891 (titanium dioxide).

Super quick tip for shiny glossy hair

W-Nov2004-Ruslana-Mario-Sorrenti

I’ve found this piece of advice in the January issue of Vogue 1973! Yes, I know, it’s been a looooooooooooooong time since that article was published, but this simple tip for achieving beautiful glossy polished hair without using any chemical solutions or heated appliances is so brilliant it must not be forgotten. Perfect for girls with a bob hair-cut or those with long straight hair.

Use a small silk scarf, rub the hair from roots to ends briskly, but gently. The silk will absorb any surface oil or dust, keep stray hairs in place, but won’t disturb the perfect line…

I just love it.

Currenly loving

caudalie-enzymatic-peel-mask

Caudalie enzymatic peel mask. Got this little wonder last week to replace my favourite (but slightly more expensive) Elemis papaya enzyme peel. I’m very pleased with my decision because this mask actually gave me better results and I knew exactly what was in it – no parabens, no mineral oils or anything artificial.

The mask contains papaya enzymes (same as the Elemis one), plus glycolic acid and Viniferine. It’s creamy and smells beautiful.

After applying a small amount on a cleansed face and waiting for 10 minutes, my skin looked really (I mean, REALLY) smooth, brightened and wasn’t at all irritated or dry. It’s definitely a new favourite that I’ll be buying again and again and again.

How to have the most beautiful skin at any age

vogue-japan-may2011-1

“Approaching your daily skincare routine with enthusiasm will make  a much greater difference than blindly spending a fortune on cosmetics.”

Chizu Saeki

Back in 2009 I have discovered The Japanese Skincare Revolution, a beauty book that became my skin care bible. Written by Chizu Saeki, a woman in her 60s who has beautiful skin and very few wrinkles, this slimline edition is based on the beauty secrets that Japanese women used for centuries and offers advice on every aspect of skin care you can think of, from daily beauty routines adapted for different seasons and skin types, to emergency remedies both for special events and repairing specific skin problems, to facial exercises and lymphatic massages that you can DIY in a comfort of your own bathroom. Every chapter contains precious and very detailed instructions and plenty of photographs whether she is talking about her signature moisturising “lotion mask” or daily face cleansing.

Even though Chizu herself spent many years running her own beauty salon and working for Guerlain and Christian Dior, her method is very down-to-earth: “This is something you can do at home, with what you have around you.”

Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Faces of Fall 2011

GUCCI-FALL-RTW-2011-BEAUTY-019_runway

It’s time to talk about Fall 2011 and I am going to begin with my favourite make-up and hair looks that I found the most inspiring. My personal favourites are the natural sun-kissed faces at Michael Kors, “luxurious and expensive” make-up at Roland Mouret, very lady-like polished looks at Carolina Herrera and Yves Saint Laurent and stunning lips at Gucci.

I also like the fact that the natural carefully defined eyebrows got attention they deserve.

Needless to say that the hair is simply perfect, too – the non-fussy lacquered do’s, side partings, low pony-tail or chic bun styles are feminine, but at the same time sharp and groomed, and so very simple to create. The latter is particularly important to bear in mind because every extra minute spent under a cosy duvet on a dark sleepy winter morning is more precious compared to the additional time needed for a complicated hair related extravaganza. Instead you just gather the hair in a stylish ponytail (or proceed one step further “enveloping” the hair into a reverse bun as Orlando Pita did for Carolina Herrera show) and move the parting depending on your mood and choice of outfit. Easy!

I did a bit of browsing to find out what products were used to make-up the faces at Carolina Herrera, Gucci, Michael Kors and Roland Mouret, and here’s some useful information in case you feel like re-creating them at home.

Carolina Herrera Fall 2011 by Diane Kendal for M.A.C. via Vogue Beauty

Skin: subtle foundation with a blend of faint pink blush (Angel) on the cheeks.

Eyes: “classic and clean” with the thinnest sweep of black cream liner very close to the lashes and “extended out just a bit”.

Lips: use a small brush to apply small amount of M.A.C. Prince Noir to outline the lips first and then – fill them. Keep the surface soft and matte by blotting off the excess with a folded tissue.

Gucci Fall 2011 by Pat McGrath via Allure Beauty

Skin: CoverGirl NaturelLux foundation applied with fingertips to even out skin tone followed by a dusting of powder around the nose, eyelids, and brows to cut any shine and set the foundation. No blush.

Eyes: A tiny barely there amount of taupe eye shadow in Tapestry Taupe on lids, beige eyeliner in the inner corners, plus layers and layers of CoverGirl NaturelLux mascara. Groomed eyebrows.

Lips: a mix of four products: a deep red lip pencil that both lined and filled in the mouth; a dark, blackened-burgundy lipstick dabbed on with a flat brush; a lighter, true-red lipstick tapped onto the middle of the lips; and finally, gloss.

Michael Kors Fall 2011 by Dick Page for Shiseido

Skin: start with Shiseido Perfect Refining foundation to cover any redness and blemishes, then dust with Shiseido Translucent loose powder from the mid-cheek to lower jawline only. No concealer.

Shiseido bronzer was applied from the hollow of the cheek area and diffused towards the jawline (the bronzer shade was dependent on the model’s skin tone).

Eyes: first using a fluffy brush apply Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye colour in bronze/taupe-like Sable (BR709) along the upper and lower lash line, blend well to diffuse the colour. Follow with Shiseido Eyeliner in Brown (#2) applied along the upper lash line and a couple of coats of black mascara on the top lashes.

Lips: Shiseido Perfect Rouge in Dune (BE310)

Beauty: on my bathroom shelf

elle_russia_march2008

I must admit, I’m very minimalistic when it comes to skin care. My rules are simple: take care of the skin from within before turning all the attention to the army of beauty helpers and pick the ones containing no parabens, not a single drop.

Still, I do enjoy trying and discovering new things as well as keeping the old favourites nearby and since I now have a list different from the one I posted back in January, it’s time to write a post and share.

1. Korres Wild Rose 24-hour moisturiser for brightening and illuminating, SPF 6. This cream contains wild rose oil known for its ability to tone the skin, prevent wrinkles, heal scars and reduce or prevent inflammations. I absolutely love the rich texture that somehow feels really light on the skin and the fact that this cream comes in a glass jar and is free from parabens, mineral oils, silicone and propylene glycol. Priced at £19 for 40g jar that lasts for at least 2 months, it’s cost budget friendly. I use this cream at night and this one, also by Korres, in the morning.

2. Korres Evening Primrose Oil eye cream contains primrose oil, vitamin C and zinc that help to prevent and reduce first wrinkles as well as illuminate the skin around the eyes. The tub is HUGE for an eye cream and I only use a rice-size amount that’s enough for both eyes. RRP £22.50 for 30ml.

3. Korres Milk Proteins 3-in-1 cleanser. I bought this one to try and see how I get on with a creamy cleanser as I don’t often go for this texture and prefer gels. However, I’ve been very happy with it so far – it removes daily dirt, make-up (including eye make-up) and tones at the same time. It’s also a good product for those who prefer not to use water on their face as the cleanser can be left on. Personally, I remove the excess with a cotton wool and then rinse my face with warm water. RRP £14.00 for 200ml.

4. My Nuxe Masque Doux aux 3 Roses white clay mask also contains rose oil as well as 17 other active ingredients that purify the skin. Although I wasn’t too keen on its fragrance to begin with, the texture was incredibly delicate and creamy. It didn’t dry my skin out either, so I could use it all over my face, not just the T-zone. Frankly, I can’t fault any of the Nuxe products. I’ve used them for ages and am likely to switch back to the creams and cleansers at some point.

5. Margaret Dabbs Exfoliating Food Mousse scrub is one of the two products you would ever need to keep your feet baby soft and beautiful. I bought it back in spring and fell in love after the first use. You need a very small amount of the product that you massage into your feet before jumping in a shower. Use it once every few days and you’ll be the happiest (and pretties) girl ever. RRP £15.00 for 100ml.

6. Margaret Dabbs Hydrating food treatment is a delicate cream that you can use after the scrub or on its own on a daily basis. You need 1 pump to work on both feet, so the bottle lasts ages. I really love the light citronella fragrance, too. RRP £25.00 for 200ml. The best of the best of the best foot cream ever.

7. Balance Me Rose Otto body wash was a freebie that came with a September issue of Red magazine last week. It’s just lovely… It smells like a mixture of sweets and rose petals and feels really moisturising on the skin. RRP £8.00 for 125ml or just buy the magazine this month.

8. Sanctuary Body Scrub is gentle enough to be used daily. I bought it because it was affordable (£5.10 for 200ml), paraben-free and contained neroli oil that I adore. I was more than pleased with the product because not only it left my skin feeling really soft as if it was actually moisturised, but also because of its fragrance. It smells pretty much the same as Dune by Christian Dior, so if you use this perfume, you can easily combine the two.

9. Once everything was polished and moisturised, I prettify my tootsies with a touch of  OPI Clubbing Til Sunrise – one of the varnishes I use on a regular basis. It’s a beautiful orange shade that shimmers and looks absolutely beautiful with tan sandals.

10. My hair routine remained the same for months now. I got back to my Kevin Murphy Balancing Wash Shampoo as this one can be used daily (it smells of lavender, by the way), followed by Kevin Murphy Hydrate-Me Rinse Conditioner. I honestly cannot recommend Kevin Murphy products highly enough – they work, contain natural oils and extract and smell heavenly. I love every single one of them and buy professional size bottles these days, which ensures that I have plenty available and also saves some money.

And this is pretty much it. The only item I haven’t mentioned is the oil I use instead of a body moisturiser, but since I’ve talked about it in my January post, I decided not to include it here.

What about you? Any beauty discoveries or old favourites that you would never get tired of? Please do share.

Do you remember that picture of Julie Ordon and her gorgeous hair-do? Well, I’ve got great news for you today. I was actually lucky enough to find that very issue of Glamour AND see a similar style tutorial on TV as shown by Richard Ward (yes, the very same stylist who did Kate’s wedding hair). There’s no need for professional tools or hair pieces here and, oh joy, you don’t really need to be super-skilled in hairstyling department either.

Version 1 (from Glamour UK November 2005):

* To create a spin on the 60s high fashion hair put all your hair in a high pony tail and secure with a hairband.

* Divide the ponytail into two halves horizontally, backcomb the bottom half and pin it into a “pad”, then backcomb the top section, spritz with hairspray and pin it, not too carefully, over the bun.

* Secure with a few pins if necessary.

Version 2 (by Richard Ward):

* Put all your hair in a high pony tail and secure with a hairband.

* Now stick the ponytail through the hair doughnut and secure the doughnut with two pins – on goes through the top and the other one – from the bottom upwards.

* Gently backcomb your hair to add extra volume and wrap it around the doughnut. Secure with pins and some hair spray.
