The spirit of the city

There would not be a better moment to introduce Reiss Autumn 2012 collection than London fashion week. Not only because it’s a British brand, but also (and this is a very important “also”) because the collection called “The spirit of the city” was inspired by London, with its unique blend of luxurious heritage and modern creative spirit.

From the artistic and romantic affair of woodland influences to the strength and power of Forties icons, to sexy, minimalist Nineties styling and playful pyjama dressing, the season is all about bringing back the glamour to be enjoyed by any woman who isn’t afraid to experiment and knows exactly what she wants.

You can play with textures and silhouettes by going for volume, clean lines or highlighting the waist, truly indulge in a very autumnal colour palette full of soft and ethereal shades, icy blues and blush pinks and vibrant jolts of emerald, fuchsia and reds and then finish the look with beautiful accessories made of smooth leather.

With the incredible attention to details and perfect tailoring, the collection looks as if it came straight from the catwalk, so it’s hard to believe (and yet it’s true) that everything is available in your nearest Reiss shop or on-line.

A slight change to the usual editorial-themed post today. For some reason I’m in a mood for black-and-white photography and everything romantic and these elegant and timeless ads featuring stunning Shalom Harlow are a perfect reflection of that.

NYFW Spring 2013 favourites

New York, New York… A place of geometrical fantasy. You have a feeling it’s going to be beautiful, but never quite know what to expect. I like this “less fuss – more class” thing about New York fashion week. Agreed, there are seasons when designs are bursting with dancing skirts, but more often than not, it’s all about  minimalism and graphics and it is the gorgeous minimalism that makes me fall in love with New York collections.

This time there was plenty of minimalism softened with butterflies, flowers and sequins, raffles and lace, but at the end there were just two collections that really had an effect on me.

I loved the pure ethereal feel at Donna Karan and dresses that caress the body at Narciso Rodriguez. To me, they were perfect and something worthy of a heart beat.

CLEANSE: the official launch

It was the event I wish I could attend. Alas I had to firmly plant myself in the UK, miles away from The Double Seven in New York where the party took place.

I could have said that life wasn’t fair to me, otherwise I would have been there, but it would be a little lie because life has, in fact, been very kind, although I will cover this part a few paragraphs later.

Right now, with happy tears of pride and joy in my eyes I would like to share the news – CLEANSE: one body, one planet – an initiative created by Anne-Marie Van Dijk to provide young models with all the support, inspiration and advice they need, has become official.

The aim of the programme is to help the girls at the beginning of their modelling career by introducing them to a team of trusted lifestyle coaches, doctors, nutritionists and trainers to make the journey as smooth as possible and, most importantly, helping them remain healthy while meeting demands on the fashion industry.

It took a lot of hard work to make things official and I couldn’t have been more proud of Anne-Marie for achieving her dream. She is special and so is her project. I am very excited about the future of CLEANSE and looking forward to seeing it grow from strength to strength.

Where do I fit in? Remember I mentioned that the life was kind to me? Well, first of all I consider myself incredibly lucky to know Anne-Marie and even more lucky to have been invited to the event. And then, of course, comes a little collaboration that makes me smile every time I think of it. A few months ago, while the new CLEANSE website was still in production, Anne-Marie asked me if I would like to write about fashion for CLEANSE blog. Do I even have to say it out loud how happy she made me feel? We chose a few posts from Fashioned by Love to start with, but from now every new article will be created especially for the website to be published once or twice per week.
